Tein has released their new coilover series, the Flex Z Kit, to replace their current Street Flex line of coilovers. These coilovers still feature many of the same features that the older Street Flex series did. Some of these include separate full length ride height adjustment, twin tube structure, damping adjustment, and a complete kit including front camber plates. The main difference with the Flex Z line of coilovers compared to every other coilover that Tein and any other company has produced is the use of "Sealed Structure".
The Ride Height adjustment for the Type Z is done using the full length strut body. This method enables adjustment of ride height without sacrificing stroke length or spring pre-load. Not only will this make it possible to adjust your height wherever you want but also will maintain the same ride quality and more setting choices for sport driving. The twin tube structure maintains a great ride at all times by using low pressure gas to reduce friction and gain a smooth stroke movement. This low friction makes it easy for the coilover to follow rough and bumpy road surfaces while also being able to be stable at high speeds.
The damping used in the Flex Z coilover is controlled by a needle valve and is 16 way adjustable with compression and rebound being adjusted together at the same time. When turning the adjustment knob, the damping force and stiffness is adjust linearly step by step to change the ride and handling of the car to the drivers preferences. The Flex Z series is compatible with Tein's EDFC (Electronic Damping Force Controller), which replaces the damping knobs with stepping motors and makes it possible to control your vehicle's damping from inside the cockpit.
These coilovers come standard with front camber plates and are complete with top mounts at all four corners. The coilovers also feature dust boots to prevent damage to the shaft and keep the seals clean. Final assembly of the coilovers is done in a clean room with monitored air pressure and cleanliness to shut out any dirt or dust that can make it into the strut body. All upper mounts and lower brackets are coated with TEIN green powder paint which features a high coating film strength. It is highly durable yet is low pollution due to no use of harmful solvents. The struts themselves go under a shot blasting treatment before Tein's patented 2-layer/1-bake treatment, which uses anti-rust powder paint for superior durability and high corrosion resistance.
The biggest difference between the Flex Z coilover and other coilovers is the use of their "Sealed Structure" strut. This means that the shock absorber is now sealed and is not rebuildable or disassemblable like the older coilovers are. Instead of having the shock be disassembled and rebuilt, Tein has made it where the user replaces the entire shock unit and transfers over all the parts of the coilover. This allows for much lower manufacturing cost and an easier process to replace the strut. No longer will you need to remove the coilover, send it in and wait for it to be rebuilt/revalved, then reinstall weeks later. You are now able to order a new shock absorber and replace just that part whenever needed. Less downtime, lower cost, and ease of replacement. This helps to keep the Flex Z coilover at such a low cost while still delivering all the performance needed for the everyday enthusiast. These coilovers are made in Yokohama Japan and maintain the japanese quality that Tein is known for.
